Green Living: Easy Ways To Make It A Habit
The public debate around carbon emissions and climate change is very much in the public domain, and many folks are highly aware of the relevant factors. Lots of people are interested to help battle the threat but have very little idea how to go about it. Fortunately, there are many relatively simple ways to help out, without having to be a hero. Here are some of the things you can do to help.
1. If possible, use your laptop or netbook, not a desktop computer.
Computers these days are widely used, with hundreds applications. Laptops use approximately half the energy consumed by a desktop computer, so use a laptop whenever you can. There are also other advantages of working on laptops; they are portable, which means you can take them anywhere with you and work and they’re more low-cost.
2. If it’s not too far, walk
Autos and pollution are go together in my mind. The burning of petrol makes a vehicle run, but a byproduct is carbon dioxide and other deadly fumes given off into the atmosphere. The volume of gases from autos poisoning the air everyday is great, given the vast number of cars in use worldwide. By opting to walk instead of drive, we can decrease the extent of bad emissions. Still, you can’t walk at all times but you should try to when the opportunities to do so present themselves. Any quick trips by car can perhabs be replaced by walking without any problems. Walking can help you relax, great for your health as well as that of the planet, and save you a bit of money on the side.
3. As you are brushing your teeth, turn off the faucet
We use water all the time, from cooking to laundry to keeping radiators warm so it’s no wonder so much of it is wasted daily. When you brush your teeth make sure to turn the tap off, otherwise you’ll be wasting a lot of water. Just imagine: you should brush your teeth for two minutes and in two minutes a good deal of water goes to waste. Prepare for brushing and conserve water by putting an adequate amount for rinsing in a glass beforehand.
4. Do short showers instead of bathing
Taking a shower utilizes less power and water than taking a bath, so opt to shower. But then again, if you shower for more than 20 minutes, ! A quick shower is great; if it becomes a long one, you may as well have taken a bath!
5. Avoid leaving lights turned on day in and day out
Avoid leaving a light switched on in a vacant room. If a room doesn’t have anyone in it, what is the use of leaving a light switched on? You’ll save energy when you do this, which will save you money on the side and help the earth. And switch the lights off when the sun is bright outside; you should have sufficient natural light indoors.
Observing these quick tips won’t cost you a penny. {In fact, they’ll probably save you money.} Go on, help the environment!
